Homework assignments for ECE 615 Fall 2007

Homework guidelines are found here.

HW#1 – due Monday, September 17, derive the equivalent of Eq. (2.16) but for a track-and-hold circuit. Use SPICE to verify your derivation (similar to Ex. 2.2).

HW#2 – due Wednesday, October 3, book problems: 30.1-30.4, 30.11, 35.1, 35.3, 35.9, 35.11, 35.21, 35.24 In addition to working these problems yourself, I want you to report errors in the solutions at CMOSedu.com.

No lecture on Wednesday, October 10 or Monday, November 12

Project 2 due Monday Dec. 17 before 6 pm.

Repeat project 1 but using a passive noise-shaping bandpass modulator

Project 1 due Wednesday Nov. 14

Develop the theory for designing K-path, passive, noise-shaping ADCs. Your terse project report (in PDF format) and simulation examples (in a folder placed in a zip file) should be emailed to me prior to the start of class on the day the project is due. Some useful simulation examples are found in ECE615_project1.zip.

Some comments concerning writing the report and turning in simulations.

I’ve found long derivations indicate that you don’t know what you are doing (so come to the point and make sure it’s relevant).

Follow many of the guidelines above for homework (don’t turn in a report with one page for a simulation plot, or with plots that don’t have hand drawn or computer drawn indications making the plot useful.)

Long reports generally indicate you didn’t think about how to present your results (and I grade the report accordingly).

You need to make the names of the files I should simulate and look at very clear.

You can make the simulations I’m providing better, and you should, by, for example, putting the passive noise shaping modulator in its own subcircuit, using an RC that is selected for a reason (and you state why), etc. Think about how to make the simulation schematics look nice.

Turning in my work (the simulations) or small variations will result in no credit. You need to think about things on your own and take a direction.

All simulation results should plot automatically after I run the simulation.
